Eureka girls coast into 8-B tournament final

EUREKA - Regular-season champion Eureka made it look easy, coasting to a 50-25 semifinal victory Thursday over Troy at the District 8-B girls basketball tournament.

The Lions (13-6 overall) jumped out to an 11-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Eureka led 21-9 at the half.

Amber Stacy, 12 points, was the lone player in double figures scoring for Eureka. Ten of those points came in the final half.

Amy Roberts pulled down seven of Eureka's 26 rebounds in the contest.

Two players accounted for all of Troy's offense. Elisha Kampfe led all scorers with 14 and Lucy Davis tallied 11.

Troy had 14 rebounds in the game and Christa Cargill led with six.

Eureka advances to Saturday's title game, 6 p.m. versus Thompson Falls (11-8).

Troy (6-14) faces Plains (1-18) tonight at 7:30 in loser-out play while Arlee (10-10) faces St. Ignatius (5-15) today at 1 p.m.

The top four teams advance to the Western B divisional.

Thompson Falls 58, Arlee 44

Amber Grazier scored 13 of her 17 points in the opening half as Thompson Falls downed Arlee.

She also pulled down 12 rebounds.

Alyssa O'Neill of Arlee led all scorers with 23 points.

Boys

Plains nips Arlee, 68-65

LIBBY - Bob Neiman scored 20 points and Brandon Thompson 19 as Plains (17-2) slipped past Arlee 68-65 Thursday to advance to the boys District 8-B championship game on Saturday, 8 p.m., versus Thompson Falls.

Neiman had a big fourth quarter, scoring 12 of Plains' 18 points in the period.

Thompson, on the other hand, started strong with nine points in the opening quarter.

Plains led 23-14 after eight minutes of play, but trailed 36-35 at the half.

Arlee (8-12) was led by Danny Miles' 30 points. He had six treys in the game, three in the second period when he tallied 15 points.

Levi Hendrickson added 11 for Arlee.

Plains had 41 rebounds in the contest. Neiman led with 11.

Arlee faces Troy (1-18) tonight at 6 in loser-out action while Eureka (7-12) meets St. Ignatius in afternoon play at 2:30.

Rob Jedlicka led a balanced offensive attack for Thompson Falls (12-7) with 22 points as the Bluehawks defeated St. Ignatius 75-68 in semifinal play.

Evan Hopkins followed with 17 points, Nathan Bache tallied 14 and Nate Pavlik added 10.

Gus McDonald of St. Ignatius (10-10) led all scorers with 30 points. He also had nine rebounds along with Rocky Schock.
