An elderly Kalispell woman was critically injured in a crash Thursday morning on U.S. 93.

The identity of the 74-year-old woman was not immediately released.

According to Kalispell policeman Scott Warnell, she was turning left from Indian Trail Road, southbound on U.S. 93. She pulled out in front of a Frito-Lay truck driven by a 39-year-old Kalispell man.

The truck, which had been traveling at highway speed, struck the woman's Subaru Forester directly on the driver's area of the car. Although she was wearing a seat belt, the woman suffered severe head and internal injuries, Warnell said.

The truck driver, also seat-belted, was uninjured.

Kalispell fire department and Montana Highway Patrol responded. The woman was taken by fire-department ambulance to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
