Marian Elizabeth McConkey, 76

Marian Elizabeth McConkey, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at the Lake View Care Center in Bigfork.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1928, in Savoy, Mont., to George Clarence and Cora Matilda (Walters) Packer. Marian received her early education in Harlem, and graduated from high school there.

She married Ben Powell and was widowed in one year. Marian returned to the high school and took a correspondence course. She then married Robert McConkey on Dec. 11, 1948, in Havre. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to O'Neil Construction Ranch and Marian cooked for the hired men.

Marian loved to paint with oils and sold Avon for 18 years. She enjoyed visiting with all the neighbors in Round Butte and Ronan. She also loved camping out in their fifth wheel.

Marian was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was past matron in 1983-84. She has been a member for over 50 years. Marian also loved traveling with Good Sam and was a member of the Veterans Auxiliary and the Sew & So Club in Round Butte.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two brothers, George and Wayne; and two sisters, Dorothy Duncan and Agnes Schend.

She is survived by her sons, Warren McConkey and wife, Betty of Bigfork, and Larry McConkey and wife, Debra, of Youngsville, La.; and a daughter, Margaret Therriault and husband, Alvin, of Philipsburg; five granddaughters, Charlette, Charity, Rebecca, Stacey and Heather; five grandsons, Ryan, Chad, Chris, Trevor and Aaron; three great-grandsons, Gus, Woody and Taylor; and a special niece, JoAnn Jenkins, of Lewistown.

Funeral services for Marian will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, at the Community United Methodist Church in Bigfork with Pastor Jan Witman officiating. Burial will follow at the Glacier Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
