Album making workshop today

Come to an all-day album making workshop today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Eagle's Nest Cafeteria at Flathead Valley Community College. Registration is free when you bring a new album-making friend. Prize drawings will be held throughout the day. Call Joyce Workman at 755-4922.

Library to have birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss fans are invited to the Flathead County Library in Kalispell at 11:30 a.m. today for the annual birthday celebration to honor the beloved creator of Cat in the Hat and the Grinch.

The Cat in the Hat will join in the celebration, which include a session of Dr. Seuss stories. Refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Library.

Skiers and their dogs race Sunday

The fourth annual Free Dog 5K XC Race takes off tomorrow at the Swan Lake Day Park in Swan Lake.

The event, part of the Swan Lake Nordic Fest.

Teams consist of one dog and one skier who must start the race together, go through a series of gates together and end together.

Register in advance by calling 406-886-2080. On Sunday, register at 2 p.m. at the lodge, located between mile marker 71 and 72 on Montana 83 in Swan Lake. Entry fee is $15. The race will begin at 3 p.m.

Racers will enjoy chili and beer after the race while their pups enjoy a good dog biscuit.

Come early Sunday and enjoy Nordic racing with the third annual Swan Lake Sprint races. The open heat format for all ages is great fun to watch. Races begin at noon. The snowcreature building competition gets under way at 1 p.m. For more details, contact 406-886-2303.

Blacktail race benefits reading buddies

Blacktail Mountain Ski Area hosts a race today to benefit the Lakeside Reading Buddies Program. The race is open to the public, with three different age categories, adult, teen and child.

Registration is 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the cafeteria, on the second floor of Blacktail Mountain Lodge. The entry fee is $10 per person.

Racing will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Emmons Ridge. Prizes will be awarded in each category at 3:30 p.m. at Muley's on the Mountain.

John White Lecture Series continues

Joseph Ashley, associate professor of geography at Montana State University in Bozeman, will speak on the topic, "Northwestern Montana's Automobile-Related Commercial Landscape" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Museum at Central School in Kalispell. The presentation is the second of the four-part John White Lecture Series at the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Ave. E.
