| July 6, 2005 1:00 AM

A motorcycle driver died Monday afternoon on U.S. 2 near Kila.

Angela Rose, 28, of Kalispell was pronounced dead at the scene, east of Rogers Lake Road. She was traveling alone.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, her motorcycle veered off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail.

Deputy coroner Brad Stahlberg said Rose was wearing a helmet, which was removed by the impact of the accident. She died of head and neck injuries.

The ALERT helicopter, Marion ambulance and Smith Valley Fire Department responded to the crash.

The accident is still under investigation, but preliminary indications are that neither speed nor alcohol was a factor.

It was a deadly weekend on local roadways. Highway Patrol officers also responded to a fatal crash on the Swan Highway and two in Lake County.

The deaths raise the state highway fatality toll to 121, compared to 106 on the same date a year ago.
