Eleanor P. Stewart, 75, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2005, at her residence in Kalispell. She lost her battle with cancer, but won the victory over death "through our Lord Jesus Christ."

She was born on April 1, 1930, in Princeton, N.J., the daughter of Lester and Anna (Cronce) Paul.

After high school, Eleanor graduated from nursing school at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. She met and married her husband of 53 years, Robert "Bob" Stewart Sr. They spent the first 16 years of their marriage traveling the U.S.A. and the world compliments of the U.S. Navy.

Before becoming a grandmother, Eleanor influenced many young people. She was very involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from den mother to leadership trainer. She was a recipient of the rare Silver Fawn award, and was known for years as "Mother Nature" to many young men for whom she was a volunteer Scout camp cook.

Since moving to the Flathead in 1967, Eleanor was a vital part of the Church of God, serving in the Kalispell congregation for more than 30 years. She spent her last years in the Whitefish Community Church of God. She especially enjoyed teaching and directing vacation Bible schools and Bible studies. She loved to organize and cook for the church socials. She was a longtime member of the Women of the Church of God and, most recently, the Women of Faith.

In 1995, Eleanor was a nurse with Humanitarian International Services to Rivne, Ukraine. A year later, she helped sponsor two Ukrainian boys and their interpreters, who came to Kalispell for medical treatment. Even during her treatment for breast cancer, Eleanor was a source of encouragement and laughter to the caregivers at Glacier Internal Medicine, Northwest Imaging, Glacier Oncology, and North Valley Hospital. She would certainly want to thank all those people who touched her life and the lives of her family.

Eleanor was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma and Marion; and three brothers, Ronald and his infant twin, and Kenneth.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Stewart Sr. of Kalispell; a daughter, Pam Stewart; two sons, Ted Stewart and wife, Joan, and Robert Stewart Jr. and wife, Patti, all of Kalispell; and grandchildren, Chris and Sean Stewart, are a great joy to them, too. Eleanor is also survived by a "sister-in-love," Donna Paul of Pennington, N.J.; as well as nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 25, at Glacier Memorial Gardens. There will be a memorial service for Eleanor at Whitefish Community Church of God at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 25.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to Home Options Hospice, 175 Commons Loop Suite #100, Kalispell, MT 59901.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Eleanor's family.
