C-Falls soccer deadline June 10

Registration for the Columbia Falls Youth Soccer fall season is due June 10. Forms are available at District 6, West Glacier and Deer Park schools, as well as Glacier and First Citizens banks in Columbia Falls. Volunteer coaches are also needed.

Osweiler named tourney MVP

Brock Osweiler, a 6-foot-8 eighth grader at Kalispell Junior High School, played with the Yakima Elite 14U boys basketball team at the AAU West Regional Memorial Day Tournament in Reno, Nev.

Yakima Elite, which consisted of select players from Washington and Osweiler, won the tournament championship by defeating Sacramento Jr. Kings out of Sacramento Calif. The tournament fielded 24 of the best teams from the Northwest and West Coast.

Osweiler was awarded tournament MVP for his outstanding play. Osweiler will also be traveling with Yakima Elite to the Las Vegas Classic in July and the AAU 14U National Tournament in Orlando, Fla., in early August.

Osweiler will attend Flathead High School in the fall.

McCaffrees first in team roping

Shane and Zane McCaffree of Columbia Falls won the team roping competition at a high school rodeo in East Glacier last Saturday. The Flathead Valley Rodeo Team (FVRT) duo came back to place second in the same event on Sunday.

Two youth sport camps scheduled

Kalispell Parks and Recreation is offering two sports camps this summer - pee wee and mini pee wee.

Pee wee is for ages 5-8 and introduces youngsters to the basic fundamentals of soccer, basketball, floor hockey and baseball. Session 1 is June 20-24 at Elrod; Session 2 June 27-July 1 at Edgerton; Session 3 July 11-15 at Hedges an Session 4 July 18-22 at Elrod. Times are 9 a.m.-noon each day. The cost is $50 for in-city participants; $60 out-city.

Mini pee wee is for ages 3-4 and introduces youngsters to the basic fundamentals of T-ball, soccer and basketball. Session 1 is June 20-24 at Elrod; Session 2 June 27-July 1 at Edgerton; July 11-15 at Hedges and July 18-22 at Elrod. Times are 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $30 in-city or $36 out-city.

Loeffler places at national track

Ross Loeffler, a freshman at Dickinson State University, earned all-American honors and helped the Blue Hawks men's track team defend their NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field championships in Louisville, Ky.

Loeffler, of Bigfork, was a member of the Dickinson State 400-meter relay team, which finished third at nationals with a time of 40.57.

Loeffler also ran on the Blue Hawks' 1,600 relay team in the semifinals, which posted a time of 3:12.17.

N. Valley cage camp this month

The North Valley Championship 2005 basketball camp will feature five sessions for boys and girls, grades K-12, this month.

Individuals can register up to the day of camp, but preregistration is encouraged.

Grades K-2 will camp June 13-14 (5:30-8:30 p.m., $35); grades 3-4 June 15-17 (5:30-8:30 p.m., $45), grades 5-6 June 13-15 (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., $55), grades 7-8 June 16-18 (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., $60) and grades 9-12 June 20-24 (8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., $70).

Grades K-4 will have lower baskets, smaller balls and smaller courts to enhance the child's development. Grades 5-12 will play three full games each day.
