Natural science center gets bluegrass backing

| June 24, 2005 1:00 AM

Bluegrass sensation Kane s River will join the Flathead s own Montana Beargrass Band and Frank O Brien Jr. for the third annual Rockin for Ravenwood festival.

Ravenwood Natural Science Center s annual fund-raiser is July 2 at the Rocky Mountain Roadhouse outdoor stage, five miles east of Bigfork on Montana 209. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.

With the release of their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut recording in October 2000, Bozeman-based Kane s River captured the attention of the entire bluegrass world and quickly gained a reputation for trailblazing a new, refreshing approach to bluegrass and acoustic music.

While Kane s River remained near the top of the bluegrass national charts for several months, the band was catapulted to the national level and hailed as one of the brightest rising stars on the scene.

Same River Twice, released in August of 2003, was received with rave reviews from critics and fans throughout the nation.

With three dynamic lead vocalists and outstanding harmonies, all members of Kane s River are also gifted instrumentalists and songwriters. Together, they display a unique and lively stage presence, all of which have resulted in the band becoming one of the industry s most highly sought-after bands. They have performed at some of the acoustic music world s most prestigious events and venues.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $12 for adults and $8 for youth ages 10-18. Admission for children 9 and under is free.

Local businesses and artists have contributed to offer a superb list of items for door prizes and the Ravenwood silent auction.

Last year s event generated over $4,000 to expand education programs and provide area youth and adults with a quality experience in natural science and wilderness study.
