Car show today in Kalispell

Rumble over to the Rocky Mountain Street Machines car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Montana Harley Davidson, 2480 U.S. 93 S., in Kalispell.

Sword fighting at library today

The Flathead County Library summer reading program in Kalispell will feature a sword-fighting demonstration by the Society for Creative Anachronism at 11 a.m. today to highlight its theme, "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds." Fund-raiser today for ill veteran

A valleywide benefit for Dennis "Denny" Updegraff gets under way from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Edgewater RV Park in Lakeside.

Updegraff, a Vietnam veteran and retired from the Flathead County Sheriff's Office after serving more than 32 years, recently suffered a heart attack and stroke and is undergoing intensive therapy at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. He has no medical insurance and has been hospitalized since March 18.

A barbecue will be available for a $6 donation. Live music and a silent auction also are planned.

'Alta Bash' benefit today in Polson

The public is invited to the "Alta Bash" fund-raiser for Alta Thuesen beginning at 2 p.m. today at the Polson Airport under the white tent.

Festivities include rides on The Breezy (an open-cockpit aircraft), silent auction, homemade pie auction and face painting.

At 6 p.m., a bratwurst barbecue will be served with side dishes from Isabel's and beer and soft drinks from Glacier Brewing Co.

Live music will entertain the crowd from 6 to 9 p.m.

Proceeds will offset medical expenses for Thuesen, a Polson/Kalispell resident and full-time nursing student who has no medical insurance and is battling thyroid cancer. The cover charge is $10 for adults and $25 for families.
