An 18-year-old Kalispell man was arrested Monday for attempted rape.

Reilly Smith was 17 in mid-January when he reportedly initiated sexual contact with an 11-year old girl.

Detective Sgt. Jim Brenden of the Kalispell Police Department said Smith was a guest at the girl's home, where people were under the influence of alcohol.

The girl was sleeping on a couch in the TV room when Smith allegedly entered the room and attempted sexual contact with the girl. She awakened, pushed him away and ran out of the room for help.

Smith was told to leave, Brenden said, and did, but re-entered the home later through the root cellar. He was discovered and left for good after that.

If convicted, he faces up to 100 years in prison. He is being held on $20,000 bond.
