A driver who reportedly slammed into a bicyclist, sending him flying 150 feet, has pleaded guilty to four charges, after having to be rescued himself.

Chase R. Selleck, 24, of Columbia Falls, struck the cyclist on Columbia Falls Stage Road Wednesday evening and then left without stopping.

A witness called for help and gave authorities a description of Selleck and his silver Ford Ranger, according to court documents. ALERT helicopter flew the injured bicyclist to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where he remained Thursday.

A firefighter from Coram spotted Selleck driving east of Columbia Falls and followed him, calling for law enforcement. Selleck reportedly drove to an area near West Glacier, where he stopped his car and threw himself down some cliffs along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River.

Authorities called the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad to slow an approaching train, and also summoned North Valley Search and Rescue.

Selleck was removed from the bottom of the cliffs with ropes and was taken to North Valley Hospital by Columbia Falls ambulance. He was treated for injuries and was arrested.

Justice of the Peace David Ortley said the bicyclist is expected to survive.

Selleck pleaded guilty to DUI, leaving the scene of an injury accident, having no insurance, and driving on a suspended license.

He is expected to be sentenced today.
