Four FHS netters in consolation play

BOZEMAN - Flathead's Sara Newgard and Kelli Walterskirchen, along with Dan Lard and Dayson Mathison are still alive in consolation play at the Class AA state tennis tournament.
Newgard and Walterskirchen won their first round doubles match Friday 6-1, 6-1, but then fell in the second round, 6-2, 6-4. They came back in consolation play to post a 7-5, 7-5 win.
Lard won his opening-round match, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, but lost in the second round 6-2, 6-3. He then bounced back to win in consolation play, 6-4, 6-1.
Mathison posted a 6-3, 6-3 win in his opener, then fell 6-4, 6-1 in the second round.
In the third round, Mathison posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Tournament action continues today.
The Billings Senior boys and Bozeman girls lead the team competition.
