Gold shovels and the "Star Spangled Banner" will highlight a groundbreaking ceremony for Kalispell's new high school on Wednesday.

From 12:15 to 1 p.m., the public is invited to help launch the $39.8 million project that will house 1,200 high school students beginning in fall 2007.

The ceremony will be held on the new school site northwest of Kalispell, at the corner of Stillwater Road and West Reserve Drive.

Mayor Pam Kennedy and School Board Chairman Don Murray will speak, high school students will sing the national anthem and band members will play a few selections.

Cake and coffee for all will round out the festivities.
