Evelyn Mitchell, 74, of Kalispell, passed away peacefully at home Nov. 8, 2005, after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born in Coeur dAlene, Idaho, on March 25, 1931, to Adrian and Mollie (Eckhardt) Thompson. In 1948, she graduated from Coeur dAlene High School after which she attended cosmetology school in Spokane.

In 1950, she married Curtis Hugh Mitchell, and they moved to Kalispell in 1953, where Evelyn raised their three children and ran her own beauty shop until her retirement in 1993.

Evelyn enjoyed spending time at her cabin on Echo Lake with her family, field trips across the state with her botany group, water aerobics with her swim group, tending to her flowers, playing bridge, constructing puzzles, reading and outings with friends.

The family will miss her meal-planning skills for get-togethers and her homemade pie that was the Number One request by all the grandchildren.

She was also involved with many activities in her church, which included Stephen Ministries and the womens association. She was previously in Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.

Evelyn is survived by daughter, Karen Heuscher, and her husband, Denny; daughter, Cindy Burr, and her husband, Mike, and son, Roger Mitchell, all of Kalispell. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brian Heuscher, Brandon Heuscher, Mandy Barrow, Meghan Schuman, Emily Strawderman and Jason Mitchell; as well as great-grandchildren, Echo Strawderman, Gabriel Carmona and Ava Barrow. She has an aunt, Ruth Clukey, of Spokane; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her husband Curtis, in 1977; her mother and father; and both of her sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, with a memorial service planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Kalispell.

The family suggest memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or Flathead Valley Community College.
