Braves tie for 4th in state golf

GREAT FALLS - Flathead High School golf coach Alice Ritzman was hoping to be surprised at the Class AA state golf tournament.
She got her wish.
Two FHS individuals finished in the top 10 and the Flathead boys tied for fourth place in the final team standings.
"I am," said Ritzman of being pleased with the showing. "I told them yesterday, 11 shots out of third, that's doable. They proved it was doable. They nearly pulled it off."
Flathead, sitting in eighth place after Friday's opening round, but only 13 shots out of first, had the low team round on the final day by two shots. Flathead shot 312 for a 647 total. Billings Senior also shot 647.
Billings Skyview finished first, 642, with Helena High second, 644, and Billings West third, 646.
"Missed third by a shot, five shots out of first," said Ritzman.
"Today, for sure, was definitely a good day."
Alex Dachs and Larry Iverson both shot 74 on the final day, the low individual score at Eagle Falls Golf Course.
Taylor Gardner followed with a 78.
Overall, Iverson finished third, 153, and Gardner tied for seventh, 158.
The Flathead girls finished ninth, 892.
Billings Skyview won it with a 721 tally.
Brooke Sampson, 195, led the Bravettes. She missed the top 10 by eight shots.
"She only started playing golf this year," said Ritzman.
"That's a pretty remarkable achievement."
