A small stretch of Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road was reopened to vehicles Wednesday for the first time since heavy rains damaged the road near Logan Pass.

The park opened the road to vehicles between the Loop and the Big Bend area below Logan Pass, but only during daylight hours.

That translates to 41.5 miles of open road west of the pass and 13.5 miles east of the pass that remain open until weather prompts closures.

The road over Logan Pass between Big Bend and Jackson Glacier Overlook is closed for the season. Rains nearly two weeks ago caused severe erosion near the East Side Tunnel.

The entire length of the road remains open to hikers and bikers.
