COLUMBIA FALLS - Lisa Carter, who led Columbia Falls a year ago with 27 goals scored, is off to a fast start.

Carter provided the Wildkats with all its scoring, a hat trick, as the defending state Class A champions opened the season with a 3-0 victory Friday over Livingston.

Carter was assisted by Jessica Boyer on two first-half goals and by Sarah Frank in the final minute of play.

"We got going good, but then had some slow spots," said Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry.

"We tried to take it up the middle a lot. We need to use our wings a little more."

Columbia Falls outshot Livingston on goal, 30-3.

Trenerry said goalie Vanessa Almanza "was there when we needed her," and Michelle Valov "organized the back real well; did a good job."

Columbia Falls hosts Belgrade today at 11 a.m.

WHITEFISH - Kelly Lokken scored two goals and keeper Jessica Huseby had seven saves as Hamilton shutout Whitefish Friday in Class A nonconference girls soccer action.

The Broncs outshot Whitefish 17-12.

"We had a great start, were controlling the game," said Whitefish coach Lini Reading.

Then bam!

"Their first time down the field they scored on a floater," said Reading.

That was by Lokken nine minutes into the match.

Danielle Rodriguez nailed a header at 30 minutes, putting Hamilton up 2-0 at the half.

"The girls didn't play badly," said Reading.

"We got outplayed.

"Our first touch on the ball was so much weaker," she continued.

"That caused a lot of problems. Frustration sets in when you can't receive and maintain possession."

It was the fourth match in eight days for the Bulldogs.

Whitefish, 2-1-1, is back in action Sept. 10 hosting Corvallis.

"We have a lot of stuff to work on now," said Reading.

"Hopefully we'll get an opportunity again (to play Hamilton)."
