A Columbia Falls couple were arrested Thursday on charges they stole money from nonprofit agencies that hired them for fund-raising.

Scott and Diana Iszler are charged with felony theft.

According to court documents, they are accused of taking donations made to the Montana Animal Rescue League and Swan Valley Search and Rescue.

The information filed by County Attorney Ed Corrigan said the couple did business as "Community Outreach," soliciting donations for the two nonprofits.

They allegedly collected four halters, soft drinks, candles, a gift card, and a $2,500 quilt; none was received by the organization to which they were donated.

The Iszlers reportedly admitted keeping some of the items, but denied keeping the quilt. They were "unable to explain why that donation was not delivered to the Swan Valley Search and Rescue as intended" by the woman who made it.

The couple further admitted that it was not uncommon for them to keep donations for their own personal use and for use by their employees, the document says. Examples include food certificates, coupons for oil changes, and a lodging certificate from the Red Lion.

They were arrested on bonds of $2,500.

If convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison.
