MISSOULA - Beth Karper scored off an Alona Raymond assist at 61 minutes as Columbia Falls, the defending Class A state champions, dropped Class AA Missoula Hellgate 2-1 in nonconference soccer play Saturday afternoon.

Hellgate tied the match two minutes into the second half on a goal by Caitlyn Lower.

Columbia Falls scored first, 17 minutes into play, on a goal by Lisa Carter with an assist going to Jylisa Fields.

The Wildkats, 4-0 on the season, had lost to Hellgate the two previous seasons.

"The whole team played so well, stepped up after the red card incident," said Columbia Falls coach Greg Tenerry.

"We were playing a little disorganzied (after that). It took us a little while to get over the call. We were playing short."

Columbia Falls keeper Vanessa Almanza was given a red card when she came out on a breakaway and picked up a hand call out of the box.

"I think it was unlucky for her," said Trenerry. "She made the right decision."

Hellgate scored right after that, but Trenerry said backup keeper Colyne Hislop performed well.

"She finished the match very well," he said.

Hislop had nine saves.

Columbia Falls hosts Flathead on Tuesday, 3 p.m.
