Martha Frances (Hoppus) Anderson, 81, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Martha was born in Kalispell to Edward and Minnie Amilia Hoppus on Aug. 24, 1924.

She grew up in Kalispell where she met the love of her life, Kermit L. Anderson. They were married Feb. 2, 1943.

Martha worked at the Army Depot in Pasco, Wash., during World War II, and had their first child while Kermit served his country abroad, after which they settled back in Kalispell.

Martha was a devoted wife who took great pride in the upkeep of her home and family, always keeping her home warm and inviting to many friends and relatives, no matter where they moved. They settled in Walla Walla in 1965, and it became home. Martha suffered some medical problems in 1977, which made everyday things hard for her. But she always had great determination, always was feisty, and continued to challenge herself to overcome any difficulties that she might have had.

After the death of her husband in 1983, Martha focused her attention on her animals, of which there were many. She found great joy in her grandchildren, and always enjoyed their visits.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit L. Anderson; her parents; a daughter, Karen Anderson, and a brother, Victor Hoppus.

Martha is survived by a daughter, Vicki Russell, of Richland, Wash.; and two sons, Raymond Anderson of Hermiston, Ore., and Robbin Anderson of Walla Walla; a stepbrother, Alvin Krentz, of Kalispell; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 16, at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla, with Chaplain Steve Morris of the Jonathan M. Wainwright Veterans Medical Center officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Mountain Humane Society through Herring Funeral Home in Walla Walla.

Arrangements are entrusted to Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
