Arthur William 'Art' Lubbes, 80

Arthur William "Art" Lubbes, 80, died at his residence Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, in Kalispell.

He was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Wallowa, Ore., to Lloyd and Velma (Hewitt) Lubbes.

Art attended schools in Wallowa, Ore., graduating from high school in 1943. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, serving during World War II, and served in the South Pacific on the Cruiser USS Nashville.

After being discharged, he drove logging trucks in Oregon for about four years, and then was drafted again in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.

After his second discharge, he returned to Oregon and worked again as a log truck driver. Art then started to drive heavy construction equipment, retiring in 1986, and subsequently moved to Kalispell in June of 1999.

Arthur was a retired member of the Teamsters. He also enjoyed fishing and observing sports of all kinds on television.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Ray Martin; brother, Raymond; and granddaughter, Ashli Cottingham.

He is survived by four daughters, Sandi Nelson and husband, Arthur, of Kalispell, Kathy Foster and husband, Joe, of Malta, Gayle Young and husband, Phillip, and Cheryl Lubbes, all of Great Falls; half-brother, Delbert Martin, of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will no services or visitation at this time.
