He was taken into custody. On Parkside Drive, an adult son reportedly had been drinking before he threw water on his mother. The son on Kelley Road left before a deputy arrived to check out a report that he was beating up a parent's belongings.

The Kalispell Fire Department and other agencies had a busy morning Monday. At 8:46, someone was taken to the hospital from a crash at Main and Idaho streets. arrested a man Tuesday after he allegedly stole a puppy from the animal shelter and wound up running over it with his car. Daniel Staggs, 18, is charged with taking a black Labrador from the shelter and fleeing in a black Ford Probe. Animal Warden Paul Charbanneau reportedly saw the vehicle and followed it through town. On Meridian Road, Staggs reportedly opened his car door and threw out the puppy. According to a police report, the dog lost its footing when it landed or ran beneath the car and was killed. Sgt. Wade Rademacher said Staggs is charged with theft.

Russ was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Demaine, Saskatchewan, to Freeman and Mable (Anderson) Cornish. At the age of 15, when the family moved to British Columbia, Russ fell in love at first sight with the majestic mountains — a love that was to last his whole life.
