Richard Boggs, a defensive tackle/tight end at Flathead High School, has committed to Montana State University as a preferred walk-on with the Bobcat football team.

Boggs, 6-foot-7, 235 pounds, was a second team Class AA All-State selection at defensive tackle. He was named to the All-Conference third team at the same position.

Boggs was a one-year starter for the Braves. He transferred in for his senior season from Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Ga.

"There will be an chance, an opportunity for a scholarship down the road," said Boggs at MSU.

"The coaches are great. I like the program. The guys are cool."

Boggs made his official visit to MSU last weekend. He then notified the MSU coaches on Monday that he would join their program.

Boggs says MSU wants him to play offensive tackle.

"It's gonna be something new," he said.

"They say I have potential."

Boggs says he will have to put on 60 pounds.

"I think I can do it," he said.

"I like the weight room. I think it will be OK."

Boggs also looked at Montana Tech and Rocky, where he had a scholarship offer.

"I'm excited," said Boggs.

"Beau Watkins is going, too. We're pretty good friends."

Flathead's Watkins joined MSU as a preferred walk-on last week.

Boggs is a three-sport athlete at FHS. He also is a member of the varsity basketball team and competes in the weight events in track.
