James Albert 'Jim' Chapman, 73,

James Albert "Jim" Chapman, 73, passed away Jan. 30, 2006, at the Colonial Manor in Whitefish.

He was born March 14, 1932, in San Francisco, the son of Colenso James and Alice K. Chapman. He was raised and educated in the San Francisco Bay area. He graduated from Sequoia High School in San Carlos, Calif., and later from San Francisco State University. He served two years in the U.S. Navy and many years in the Naval Reserve.

He worked for Atkins Kroll and Co. in San Francisco and New York City for 10 years. He worked for Lockheed-Martin in Sunnyvale, Calif., for 28 years. He was the stadium announcer for the San Jose Giants (the San Francisco Giants A team) for 19 years. He retired in 1993.

He met Mary Ann Hutchison and they were married Oct. 20, 1962. They lived in Los Gatos, Calif., until moving to Whitefish in 2000.

After moving to Whitefish, Jim did some announcing for the Glacier Twins Baseball Club and was on the board for the Stumptown Historical Society of Whitefish.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Chapman, in Whitefish; three children, Cheryl Plusch and Darrell in Rhu, Scotland, Chris Chapman and Lynett in Whitefish, and a son, Jeff Chapman, in Whitefish; a sister, Linda Mandy and Mario in Brentwood, Calif.; a brother, Robert Chapman, and fiancee, Sally Ann Stover, in Brookings, Ore.; and two grandchildren, Ryan Plusch and Skylar Gobel.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish.
