Gold, Gillum lead 4th of July golf tourney

WHITEFISH - Josh Gold of Kalispell and Kelly Gillum of Fort Collins, Colo., stayed atop the leaderboard after two days of play in the 4th of July golf tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Gold, who opened with a 68 on Thursday, came back with a 70 on Friday for a 138 total and a five-shot advantage. Robb Bergeson of Billings, the runner-up in this event a year ago, is second at 143. Bergeson tied for the best round on Friday with a 69. He opened with a 74.
Also shooting 69 was Rob Logsdon of Kalispell. He is tied for third at 145 with Jason Johnstone of Havre. Logsdon struggled on opening day, carding a 76.
Johnstone's rounds are 70 and 75.
Gillum turned in the best score on the second day for the women, shooting a 72. Her 36-hole total rests at 146.
Gillum has a four-shot edge on Jasi Acharya of Missoula, 75-75-150.
Darah Newell of Helena, who shared the opening day top spot with Gillum at 74, came back with an 81 for a 155 total. That drops her in a tie for sixth place with Whitefish's Jennifer Orcutt, 77-78-155.
Rachel Warren of Billings, 78-74-152, is currently sitting third with Ashley Griffith of Billings fourth, 75-78-153, and Kylie Anderson of Great Falls fifth, 75-79-154.
The final round of tournament play is today. The leaders are expected to tee off between 1-1:30 p.m.
