Dorothy Irene Hall, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

She was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Zumbrota, Minn., the daughter of Ernest and Lilly (Ward) Herzog. She was the seventh of 13 children. Dorothy's parents died when she was very young, thus beginning a new life with her uncle's family in Minot, N.D. She received her education there, and always had very fond memories of her schooling.

Upon completion, she moved to Kalispell where she met and married Jacob Nelson Jr., and began her family with sons, Jake and Randy. They later divorced.

In 1947, she met Clarence H. Winkley; they married and added Jeff and Debbie to the family.

After Clarence passed away, Dorothy married Lowell Hall, her partner in travel. They had adventures in Florida, California, Arizona, Ohio and many fun journeys.

Wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy wore a different hat for each role, and will be missed for her wit, charm and wonderful smile.

'Good-bye for now, but not forever…'

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and all siblings.

She is survived by her three sons, Jacob Nelson III of Virginia, Randy Nelson and wife, Patty, of Billings, and Jeff Winkley and wife, Janeen, of Kalispell; one daughter, Debbie Krier, and husband, Jerry, of Kalispell; nine grandchildren, Mike Nelson, Angela Cuevara, Shane Nelson, Charles Nelson, Shelly Jefferies, Tammy Waller, Aaron Winkley, Ashley Lohr and Heidi Sampson; and 15 great-grandchildren who gave her many years of joy.

Funeral services for Dorothy Irene Hall will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 28, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be afterward at Glacier Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Dorothy's family.
