Laverne Embrose Srur, 88

Laverne Embrose Srur, 88, died at her daughter's home in Whitefish on Saturday morning, July 22, 2006, of natural causes.

She was born June 13, 1918, in Hibbing, Minn., the only child of Emery and Alvina Broten. She was raised in Rugby, N.D., and attended the Devils Lake School for the Deaf and graduated in about 1936.

She then met and married James Srur in Rugby, and they were married for more than 50 years.

She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, traveling, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Deaf Club in Grand Forks, N.D., and had belonged to a Lutheran church for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James, in 1989.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Gregoire, in Whitefish; a son, Jerry Srur, in Nucla, Colo.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and by many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, July 27, at the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Whitefish, with the Rev. John Bent officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 31, at the Grand Forks Memorial Cemetery in Grand Forks, under the direction of the Amundson Funeral Home.
