Radio Cafe series features acoustic duo Storyhill

| July 28, 2006 1:00 AM

Acoustic folk duo Storyhill appears at the KM Theatre in Kalispell on Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Montana Radio Cafe Music Series.

Acclaimed for their tight harmonies and soulful lyrics, Storyhill has performed and recorded a distinctive brand of acoustic music for over 15 years.

Natives of Montana and alumni of St. Olaf College in Minnesota, Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson released their first recording in 1989 titled "Chris and Johnny." Since then they have gone on to produce 12 CDs and tour the country from coast to coast, while amassing a loyal following and building a mailing list of over 10,000 members. They continue to sell out shows regularly in the West and Midwest.

Having pursued solo careers for a time, Cunningham and Hermanson reunited in 2001, returning with fresh ideas and more than enough material to fill their latest album.

These days, Cunningham dwells in their native Montana, while Hermanson has made his way in Minnesota, where the two attended college. They both feel strongly that their geographical distance and the time spent apart has proven instrumental in positively reshaping the way each approaches the creative process.

This new approach extends to some ambitious plans for Storyhill's future. Focusing their energy on a comparatively smaller number of consecutive shows and participation in folk festivals, the duo are introducing themselves to new audiences with new music.

With airtight harmonies that drive introspective lyrics and innovative arrangements, acoustic folk duo Storyhill proves that relevant, inspiring folk music didn't end with the likes of Simon & Garfunkel or Loggins & Messina.

Over the past 15 years, Storyhill has sold over 50,000 copies of their 12 albums without label support.

Tickets for Storyhill are $12 and are on sale at Red's Wines & Blues and Montana Coffee Traders in Kalispell; and at the Montana Coffee Traders in downtown Whitefish. For more information call 755-7575.
