Flathead County

The Flathead County Sheriff's Office said a reported broken jaw and knife attack early Sunday was fabricated by a man who came home to find another man standing in his house. The resident said he'd punched the intruder because the burglar was stealing his wife's jewelry. Not so. Turned out the resident feared getting in trouble for attacking the intruder, so the resident stabbed himself and argued self defense. Now he faces a possible false-report charge, which can carry as long as a year in jail and a small fine. The Inter Lake's initial report that a woman was stabbed was incorrect.

Deputies talked with a mother who left her two very young children in a vehicle with the motor running while it was parked in a store parking lot Sunday.

A Harmony Road resident refused to take his limping terrier-pit bull cross to the veterinarian after it was hit by a car last week, so the dog was taken to the animal shelter.

A 2 1/2-year-old girl walked out of a house Sunday on Old U.S. 2 near West Glacier, and was reported missing after 30 minutes. She was found unharmed.

Last week's theft of several cartons of cigarettes at Super 1 in Evergreen was caught on videotape. On Sunday afternoon, the culprit thought better of his actions and turned himself in.

After midnight, a fight broke out on Electric Avenue in Bigfork. It appeared to be little more than yelling among four males and a female before they left the area.

Three dog attacks in various locations were referred to the county animal warden.

Tools reportedly were stolen from a construction job site during the weekend.

The song was a lament when a woman in Hungry Horse discovered an accordion was stolen from her home.
