Genny Jo 'Jody' Caruthers, 64

Jody Caruthers, of Kalispell, passed away April 24, 2007. Jody was born March 1, 1943, in Eagle, Colo., to Ethel and Joseph Chambers. Her parents moved the family to Phoenix for a few years when she was a child and then returned to Eagle.

Jody attended school in Eagle and graduated from Eagle High School.

She married William "Bill" Caruthers on June 16, 1963. They spent the first few years of their married life in Redcliff, Colo., where they lived at the time of the birth of their first daughter. They then moved to Eagle and had their second daughter.

After a short time in Eagle, they moved to Aurora, Colo., where they lived until 1973. In 1973, they returned to Eagle. They lived in Eagle until 1994, when Bill was transferred to LaJunta, Colo., by his employer, CenturyTel.

Shortly after Bill's death in 1996, Jody returned to Eagle. She retired to Kalispell in December 2005.

Over the years, Jody was employed by the Eagle Valley Enterprise, the Eagle County Assessor's Office - she twice was elected as Eagle County assessor. Prior to retiring, she worked for The Title Company of the Rockies in Avon, Colo. Before retiring, she was active in the Rebekah Lodges of Gypsum and Leadville, Colo., the Eagle Dandylion and Lions Clubs, and the Eagle United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Dickens Carolers.

After moving to Kalispell, she continued to remain active in Rebekahs and was a member of the Kalispell Lions Club. She attended Epworth United Methodist Church and was a member of the Valley Voices Choir.

Her passions in life were her family, her cats, quilting, photography and reading. She is survived by her two daughters, Suzette Schlund and husband, Chuck, of Spokane, and Celeste Hauser and husband, Bert ,of Kalispell; and five grandchildren, Amy Schlund, Randal Schlund, Anthony Hauser, Andrew Hauser and Amanda Hauser.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Maxine Hudspeth.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell, with a reception afterward. An additional memorial service will be held in Eagle. Burial will be in Canon City, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that tribute gifts be made to the Northwest Health Care Foundation, 301 Sunnyview Lane, Kalispell, MT 59901, with the memo of Diabetes Education/Lions Strides Walk.
