Don Awesome Dickson, 63, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at his home in Kalispell. Awesome was born Oct. 22, 1943, in Long Beach, Calif., to Lt. Colonel Donald and Frances (Herrick) Dickson.

A career in the U.S. Army was shortened because of a traumatic injury suffered during service at Fort Lewis, Wash. After Awesome's honorable discharge in 1976, he worked in railroad maintenance in Libby. Awesome relocated to Kalispell in 1994 and was employed for many years at the Comprehensive Development Center.

Awesome could be seen riding around Kalispell on his bicycle, which he affectionately referred to as his '18 wheeler.' In spite of Awesome's disabilities, he participated and supported Flathead Industries' Big Mountain Climb. Awesome was a proud man and lived his life with dignity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and younger brother, Warrick.

Awesome is survived by his loving cousins and friends.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at C.E Conrad Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Huston Green officiating. Military honors were conducted by the United Veterans of the Flathead.
