Glacier Wolfpack freshman Stormy Day put his name in the Glacier High record books Friday - as the first Wolfpack wrestler to win a match.

Day earned a major decision victory - 21-8 - over Butte High's Zach Hettick at 125 pounds.

His victory was one of four on the night for the Wolfpack as junior Jordan Nelson won a decision and sophomore Lucas Cummings and junior John Frandsen each pinned their Bulldog opponents.

Butte salvaged a split between the Kalispell schools as it won the dual, 45-25.

Butte started the dual with a 12-0 lead, but Day's four-point victory was followed immediately by Nelson's 6-4 decision over Levi Lovshin - and Glacier took a 13-12 lead on the next match as Cummings pinned senior Marcus McCaughey in 1:03.

Butte bounced right back with two pins and a decision to go up 27-13.

Glacier didn't score again until Frandsen won his heavyweight match.

"I just went out there as hard as I could and didn't second guess anything," Day said. "I just went out and hard. It felt good. It was a tough match … he's good. But I just went out there and wrestled hard. That's what it takes," he said.

"We're working hard and just hoping to have a good season," the freshman added.

For his part, Wolfpack head coach Mark Fischer couldn't have been much happier.

"To be honest with you, I didn't know if we could do that," Fischer said of winning four matches.

"I'll tell you what - I was pretty impressed. For every single kid out here, this was the first time they've stepped on a mat as a varsity wrestler.

"We've got jitters going on, we're nervous and everything that's going on … against a team like Butte High School, I was impressed," Fischer said.

There were also several matches that were tied until the Glacier wrestler would make a mistake and wind up pinned.

"As the season goes on, we'll figure those things out," Fischer said.

"We know we've got a long way to improve," he added.

The Wolfpack will take the first step on that road today as it heads to the Polson Invitational.

"We're looking forward to that," Fischer said.
