COEUR D' ALENE, Idaho - "Even though we lost, it was a superb first game for us against a team that won their state tournament last year."

Those were the words of Flathead High School girls' basketball coach Kim Elliott Saturday night after Idaho's Lake City High School (4-1) beat the Bravettes, 54-46.

The Bravettes registered 23 steals, but made just 37 percent of their field goals and 37 percent of their free throws. They also had 20 turnovers.

"It was a typical first game, we were off on our shots," Elliott said. "But I'm excited about how our defense looked. We did give up some easy points, so we've got some stuff to clean up."

Kendalyn Habel led the Bravettes with 17 points. Ashlea Vaudt and Ashley Younkin added nine and eight points, respectively.

Lake City's post players Katie Baker and Amanda Krier combined for 31 points. Baker also had 14 rebounds and six blocked shots. Freshman guard Sydney Butler added 10 points.
