Lois Mae (Stults) Hawley, 92
Lois Mae (Stults) Hawley, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. She was born in Pittsville, Wis., on July 15, 1914, to John Allen and Kate (Davenport) Stults.
Lois grew up in Carlinville, Ill., and graduated from Carlinville High School in 1932. She was educated at Illinois Wesleyan University and Brokaw School of Nursing, graduating in 1936.
On Oct. 10, 1936, she married Ralph B. Hawley and to that marriage were born sons David and Ralph A., and daughter, Kathryn. They lived in Mason City, Ill., where Lois worked as a private duty nurse. During the polio epidemic of 1946, Lois was a Red Cross nurse serving three months in Hickory, N.C.
The family moved to Escondido, Calif., in 1953 where Lois worked in a physician's office and was instrumental in establishing a free health-care clinic. Upon retirement, Ralph and Lois moved to Roseburg, Ore., and Lois volunteered at the Veterans Hospital and served as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church.
The couple spent two years in Kalispell but the winter of 1978 helped them decide to move to Keizer, Ore., where they lived for 16 years.
In 1994, Ralph and Lois moved to Buffalo Terrace in Kalispell and later to Prestige Assisted Living; both were members of First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell. Lois moved to the Immanuel Lutheran Home in March 2006. The family appreciates the loving care that Lois received during her last 10 months at the Immanuel Lutheran Home.
Lois enjoyed her family, church and traveling, but her passion in life was her nursing career.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers, Herschel and Lloyd.
She is survived by her sons, David Hawley and wife, Kay, of Corvallis, Ore., and Ralph Hawley of Port Angeles, Wash.; a daughter, Kathryn Murray, and husband, Wayne, of Kalispell; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as her church family.
Private graveside services will be held for Lois in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Glenn Burfeind of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell officiating.
