When a stranger falls twice

| February 15, 2007 1:00 AM

Kalispell police called a taxi for the man at Sawbuck's who had been refusing to leave, then passed out on the barroom floor. Before the hour was out, he was back in the spotlight when somebody spotted a stranger falling down in the hallway, either drunk or in trouble. Apparently he didn't live there. At last report, he was heading home again.

The hurt squirrel in the alley was found by a kind-hearted soul, who put it in a small dog bed and called police. It was released to a woman who will nurse it back to health.

A man said he was thrown out of a motel room by his hair. Strong stuff.

For the second day in a row, a very thin, sick-looking stray yellow Labrador retriever was reported. On Wednesday morning, the mail carrier found the pooch on Riverside Drive. It was friendly, would come to a person easily, and seemed hungry. The call was reassigned to county animal control.

Kalispell Junior High officials reported a boy's boast that he planned to bring a gun to school.

After being kicked out of the homeless shelter for apparently being drunk, the woman left but then suffered an asthma attack. She was brought back to the shelter for medical attention from Kalispell ambulance workers.

Reckless driving from the white Ford Expedition northbound on U.S. 93 near the city airport Tuesday afternoon reportedly involved throwing garbage out the window, passing in the no-passing zone, speeding in and out of traffic, giving a one-finger salute to other drivers and putting another driver in the ditch.

Road rage reared its ugly head again Wednesday, again on U.S. 93 south of town. The driver of the yellow Chevy truck tried to force someone off the road, tailgated and finally pulled into Rosauer's parking lot. An officer talked with the driver.

Driving through someone else's lawn prompted a talk with the driver about where he can and cannot be driving.

A traffic stop resulted in a man's second DUI arrest. His two outstanding warrants came up in the conversation, too.

A broken gas main was reported Wednesday afternoon near the U.S. 93 and West Reserve intersection.
