Mariners clobber Red Sox, 14-4

POLSON - Brandon Thompson homered for the sixth time this season and Tim Rausch (4-1) went the distance on the mound as the Mission Valley Mariners cruised to a 14-4 victory Saturday over the Bitterroot Red Sox at the Firecracker Tournament.
Thompson, who shares the team HR lead with Eric Locke, went 2-for-3 and finished with three RBIs. He also had one of the Mariners' six doubles in the contest.
Also clubbing doubles were Locke, Joe McCarthy, Cubby Pierre and Will Gordon (2).
Bitterroot opened with three runs in the top half of the first inning, but Mission Valley responded by scoring 10 straight before the Red Sox added a run in the fifth.
Mission Valley, unbeaten in tournament play, has a pool play contest today at 9 a.m. with seeded games to follow. The Mariners (36-6) have won eight in a row.
Also Saturday, the Glacier Twins slipped past the Deer Lodge Rangers, 5-3.
Will Beasley and Kyle Yogodzinski both went 2-for-3 for Glacier. Beasley had one RBI and Yogodzinski two.
