Wallace H. Best, 80

Wallace H. Best, 80, passed away as a result of an accident in Lakeside on June 29, 2007. Wallace was affectionately known as "Grizzly Wallace" to his many friends. He was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Washington state and was raised in Helena and Dillon.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Carroll College and went on to receive his master's and Ph.D. degrees at Harvard.

He served as a U.S. Naval officer for four years.

Wallace married Evelyn Christensen in Placentia, Calif., in 1949.

Wallace taught business management and health science at USC and UCLA and spent three years in the Middle East.

He published the Saturday Viewpoints newspaper, attended church and senior luncheons and frequented the library in Lakeside.

He enjoyed reading, writing, conversation and politics.

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Judson Pierson and Christy Cecelia (Hill) Best Sr., and his wife, Evelyn.

He is survived by his daughters, Celia and husband, Jack Goodman, of Lakeside, and Christy and husband, Curt Furr, of Prescott, Ariz.; and son, Malcom and wife, Kirstie Best, of Spokane; brothers, Peter Olson Best and Juddy P. Best Jr.; grandchildren, Krista Njapa, and Raymond and Daniel Furr; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, at the Lakeside Community Church with Reverend John Ulrich officiating.
