WHITEFISH

| July 12, 2007 1:00 AM

WHITEFISH - There was no late magic this time, no clutch hit to be found - just a frustrating final two innings that turned a nail-biter into a blowout.

The Apple Valley Packers of Wenatchee, Wash., scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings Wednesday night, pulling away for a 9-3 victory over the host Class AA Glacier Twins at the 23rd Annual Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Baseball Tournament at Memorial Park.

The Twins began American Division pool play with a stirring, come-from-behind triumph over Black Hills on Tuesday, but there was little drama in Wednesday's contest as Apple Valley scored three runs in the first inning and never relinquished its lead.

Glacier starting pitcher Justin Collom threw five strong innings, holding the Packers to two earned runs while the Twins crawled back with two runs in the fourth inning, trimming their deficit to 3-2. But Apple Valley scored six runs off three Twins relievers, and Glacier's bats couldn't pick up the slack.

The Twins managed just four singles, including two off Packers starting pitcher Jacob Huylar. Huylar allowed only one earned run, but reliever Roy Figeroa earned the win with two frames of scoreless work.

Glacier left fielder Justin Goode, center fielder Scott Yogodzinski, designated hitter Weston Chambers and catcher Brad Nielsen had one hit apiece. Chambers notched the Twins' lone RBI, driving in Bell in the fourth inning to put Glacier on the board.

The Packers tallied nine hits, which were complimented by six Glacier errors. Apple Valley shortstop Josh Penny went 3-for-4, followed by designated hitter Evan Visser and right fielder Brandon Bohart with two hit apiece. Penny, Visser and Bohart each tripled.

It was a well-rounded offensive effort for Apple Valley as seven Packers drove in one run each.

Apple Valley also drew 11 walks, including five by third baseman Cam Aguilar.

The Twins fell to 1-1 in tournament pool play and 22-24 overall on the American Legion season. They look to get back on track today against the Pullman Patriots at 8 p.m.

The Packers also face the Patriots today, at 5:15 p.m.
