Five girls from the 2007 Flathead High School softball team were awarded all-state honors this week.

Seniors Brianna Compton and Christina Zorn, along with junior Heather Haegele were first-team selections. Seniors Lindsay Ingram and Leslie Quay were second-team selections.

The Bravettes finished the season with a 15-7 record and earned the No. 2 seed out of the Western AA with a 9-3 conference ledger.

Compton was the Bravettes' ace pitcher and left-handed No. 3 hitter. She finished the season with a 10-5 record and had an earned run average of about 1.20 with around 100 strikeouts, including 17 in three state tournament games. She batted about .370 on the season. Compton will continue her softball career at Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, Wash. WVC is a member of the big Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges and won the Eastern Region title for the second straight year last month.

Zorn, probably the best third baseman in Flathead High School history, was a repeat first-team all-state selection. As the No. 5 hitter in the Bravettes' batting order, she went 3-for-8 with a walk and two RBIs in the state tournament and finished the season with about a .375 batting average. Zorn will play college ball at Cedarville University - an NAIA affiliate - in Cedarville, Ohio.

Haegele is also a two-time, first-team all-stater. The center fielder was the leadoff hitter for the Bravettes and batted .508 with 15 stolen bases during the regular season. She went 3-for-7 with a double, triple, two walks, two hit by pitches, an RBI and three runs scored during the state tourney. Needless to say, Haegele is drawing interest from a few colleges.

Ingram was selected as a second-team first baseman. As Flathead's cleanup hitter, she batted near .400 with two home runs during the regular season and earned four walks during the state tourney. Ingram, a 4.0 GPA student, will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.

Quay played right field and batted about .300 with a grand slam. She earned second-team outfield honors. As the Bravettes' No. 7 or 8 batter, she walked three times during the state tourney. Quay will be joining Compton at Wenatchee Valley College.

Only Butte, which placed third at state and put four girls on the all-state first team, had more Western AA first-team all-staters.

State champion Great Falls C.M. Russell dominated the selections on the Eastern AA team with six players on the first team and three players on the second team.

Great Falls Russell defeated Helena Capital, 15-8, in the state championship game.
