Mariners sweep Salmon

POLSON - Joe McCarthy scored on a passed ball in the fifth inning with two outs to give Mission Valley a 5-4 victory over Salmon, Idaho, on Monday and a doubleheader sweep.

Beau Nordberg, making his first start on the mound, turned in a sharp performance in the opener as the Mariners cruised to a 10-0 victory.

Mission Valley improves to 10-0 in conference action, 31-6 overall.

Nordberg checked Salmon on one hit, a single, while striking out five. He issued no walks.

Mission Valley scored four runs in the first inning of the opener and added at least one run in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

Eight different Mariners had hits in the first game, led by Tyler Linse, who went 2-for-2. McCarthy had the game's lone extra base hit, a double.

Mission Valley led 3-1 after two innings of play in the second game. It was tied at 4-all after four.

The Mariners finished with just four hits in that outing.

Mission Valley hosts Kalispell today, 4 p.m.
