C-Falls lose state openers

BELGRADE - Hannah McPherson scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds Thursday to lead Glendive to a 58-48 victory over Bigfork in the first round of the state Class A girls' basketball tournament.

Kalli Stanhope added 13 points and five assists for Glendive (15-9) which outscored Bigfork 20-15 in the final quarter to pull away.

Alyssa Fierro scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Bigfork (18-3).

Glendive outscored Bigfork in three of the four quarters. Both teams scored 11 points in the third.

Glendive led 38-33 heading into the final eight minutes of play.

The Valkyries came into the tournament the top seed from Northwestern A.

Bigfork will play a loser-out game today at 2:30 p.m. versus Dillon.

Glendive moves on to face Livingston tonight at 8:30 in a semifinal contest.

BELGRADE - Miles City never trailed in rolling over Columbia Falls in the first round.

Miles City (19-2) jumped in front 5-0, led by eight at the half, 34-26, and then blew the game wide open by outscoring the Wildkats 21-3 in the third period.

Miles City had three players in double figure scoring - Charli Mader, 15, Dianna Stanley, 11, and Torrie Cahill, 11.

Alyssa Ladenburg came off the bench and had a monster game for the Wildkats (15-8), scoring 20 points and sharing the team lead in rebounding with five.

Callie Spencer and Amber Lampman also had five rebounds each.

Miles City advances to face Havre in semifinal play tonight at 7. Columbia Falls drops into a loser-out contest this afternoon at 1 versus Anaconda.

BELGRADE - Katie Mariani scored 27 points to lead Havre to an upset victory over Anaconda in the first round.

Tricia Samson added 20 points for the Blue Ponies (17-5), who outscored Anaconda 22-14 in the second quarter.

Sammy Barkell led Anaconda (19-2) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ali Hurley had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Copperheads, who had been expected to contend for the state title.

BELGRADE - Brianna Ackerman scored 13 points Thursday to lead Livingston to a victory over Dillon in the first round.

Livingston (17-5) led 25-23 going into the final quarter, but outscored Dillon 12-6 to pull away.

Sage Indendi added 10 points and five rebounds for Livingston.

Emily Hager led Dillon (15-7) with seven points and six rebounds.
