A pickup struck and killed a 19-year-old Somers man and put a 16-year-old Kalispell boy, who is brain dead, on life support Saturday, after they walked along Montana 200 near Plains.

The Somers man is Bradley "Brad" Williams. His father is Steve Williams of Kalispell, and his mother and stepfather are Carla and Lon Hayek of Somers.

Kyle D. McCullugh, 16, of Kalispell was flown to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, where he later was pronounced brain dead. He remained on life support.

Dan Resler, 32, of Plains was driving his pickup westbound on the highway at about 2 a.m. when he drifted onto the gravel shoulder on the right side of the road, the Montana Highway Patrol told The Associated Press.

Evidence at the scene indicated Resler overcorrected to the left, striking the two pedestrians as they walked along the opposite side of the road, the patrol said. Resler was alone in the vehicle.

Williams was pronounced dead at Clark Fork Valley Hospital.

"We haven't determined what speed [Resler] was driving, but it doesn't appear it was excessive," trooper Tony Cox said.

No charges have been filed, but the patrol still is investigating.
