Eleanor passed peacefully on March 10, 2007, at Crestwood Convalescent Center in Port Angeles, Wash., where she moved in 2006 to be near her daughter.

Eleanor was the beloved mother of Judy Hayden Wilhelm, and Wayne, of Port Angeles, and the late Patrick Henry Hayden, and Mary Ann of Seattle. Eleanor will be sorely missed by her grandchildren who were the joy of her life, Rick Hayden and Dana, Kristin Newland and Andy, Karin Irigon and Paix, Kellie Anderson and Jerry, Scott and Tammy Hughes, and Michael Hughes. Her great-grandchildren are Chantal, Madison, Andrew, Nicole, Hank and Sam.

Eleanor was born in Whitefish on Feb. 15, 1910. She was raised in Kalispell, where her father, John H. Metcalf, became county sheriff in 1919. Her mother, Serena Snyder Metcalf was a schoolteacher.

Eleanor graduated from high school at age 16. She traveled to Spokane to attend Deaconess Hospital's school of nursing. While there, she met her husband Richard J. Hayden, who preceded her in death (March 1966) after 36 wonderful years of marriage.

Also preceding her in death were her sister and brothers, Grace K. Metcalf, John "Jack" and Raymond.

Special love and thanks to Eleanor's faithful cousins, John Franklin and Leslie and Homer, who were there with words of encouragement and love. "She loved you dearly."

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, in the chapel of Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, Seattle. Private burial will follow at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery.
