Kalispell

| March 20, 2007 1:00 AM

Granted, Monday was a nice afternoon. Still, onlookers didn't think a woman should be disrobing on the lawn at Smith's Foods, so someone called Kalispell police. The first call reported a woman stripping on the patch of grass along East Idaho. The second call reported that now a man was involved and they were doing something on the lawn that they shouldn't be doing. Not true. Patrol Sgt. John Ortiz said the woman was intoxicated and pulled her own shirt up while lying on her back on the grass. He said it appeared she was trying to remove her trousers, too, but a man tried to prevent any further exposure - thus the mistaken assumption in the second call. Ortiz discovered she was having breathing difficulties, so called for an ambulance. The attention she received then became medical.

Police thwarted would-be car thieves Sunday night behind Elite Audio on West Center. Three people were seen lurking near a black vehicle behind a closed business. Police found a broken window and suspected burglary at Elite Audio, then spotted three people walking east on Center Street and stopped them in an alley. A boy and a girl were taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and a man went to the county jail. Charges included felony motor vehicle theft and attempted felony motor vehicle theft, possession of dangerous drugs, criminal trespass, obstructing a peace officer and probation violation. One also had an outstanding warrant.

Shortly after that arrest, somebody reported threats that the three were coming to "jump" him. But they were in custody and posed no immediate threat.

A woman reported a man assaulted her but she escaped to a friend's home. But police said she got belligerent and hung up the phone, then denied anything had happened when they tracked her down.

A child on the roof of a building behind the old hospital didn't seem hurt or scared, just playing around. Police couldn't find the child for confirmation.

An honest resident was told slipping a check under the door would be fine. He had started pumping gas at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday only to find the business closed, leaving him no way to pay.

A woman called police when, she said, her boyfriend screamed and woke the children and wouldn't leave her alone. Police conducted their own business with her by arresting her on outstanding warrants.

No identifying marks were on a shopping cart found in a yard on Sherry Lane.

Repeated written insults and disgusting sentences, along with the confetti, washed right off the Ford Explorer. But the caller said the incidents are becoming quite a nuisance.
