Village Greens opens Thursday

Village Greens Golf Course plans to open all 18 holes for play on Thursday.

Currently the club house and driving range are open daily.

No carts will be allowed on the course until further notice.

Women's golf clinic in Polson

Soroptimist International of Polson is sponsoring its second annual Women on the Green golf clinic on May 19 at Polson Bay Golf Course from noon-4 p.m.

Clinic events include lunch and breakout groups for long and short games and putting.

Brandy Casey and pros from Whitefish and Missoula will be on hand for the instruction.

The cost for the clinic and lunch is $65. Attendance will be limited to 28 women.

The sign-up deadline for the clinic is May 14. Tickets for the lunch and clinic can be purchased at The Terrace and Wallace's Golf Shop.

Big Mountain Snowboarders qualify for nationals

Big Mountain Snowboard Team members Carmel Johnston, 18, Dar Johnston, 16, Caden Michnal, 13, and Hayden Eaton, 11, have all qualified for the U. S. Amateur Snowboard Association (USASA) Nationals at Northstar at Tahoe, Calif. scheduled for March 31 - April 7.

USASA events include slopestyle, half pipe, snowboarder-cross, slalom and giant slalom.

The Big Mountain Snowboard Team participated in the Inland Northwest Snowboard Series with events held at Silver Mountain, Idaho and Schweitzer Mountain, Idaho. Points were accumulated in each event and the overall series winner for each event and age class was invited to nationals.

Carmel Johnston qualified in snowboarder-cross, half pipe, slalom and giant slalom.

Dar Johnston qualified in snowboarder-cross, half pipe, slalom and giant slalom.

Michnal qualified in slopestyle and Eaton qualified for slopestyle, half pipe and snowboarder-cross.

"I am extremely proud of this group," said Big Mountain coach Aaron Guzman.

"They really represent what the snowboard team is all about. They work hard with specific goals in mind and they are super supportive of their teammates and other competitors."
