Hedges Elementary School is participating in the Wal-Mart Kids Recycling Challenge, a program designed to clean up the environment and earn money for schools.

The program educates children about the importance of recycling and reducing household waste. Students at participating schools collect clean, dry plastic bags (any color except black), and a school representative delivers full bags to Wal-Mart. Participating schools must deliver their bags by March 30.

Schools earn $5 for each full collection bag.

From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, residents can bring their bags to Hedges Elementary School, 827 Fourth Ave. E. Students will be on hand to provide curbside pickup. Money earned will be put toward purchasing playground equipment.

If it would be more convenient to drop bags off before Saturday, call Sherry Taylor at 755-6246 or 253-5478 for drop-off information.
