WHITEFISH - Libby's Jackie Mee claimed the prime showdown, but Whitefish seized the dual, cruising to a 6-1 Western A tennis victory Friday.

Mee stunned Whitefish standout Brielle Menegazzi 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play, but the Lady Bulldogs responded by sweeping their other six matches.

"Brielle really lost her composure," Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said. "She was just really rattled, and Jackie was definitely the aggressor. I haven't seen Brielle on her heels like she was today."

Whitefish improved to 9-0 in conference duals and 11-0 overall, thanks largely to its outstanding doubles play. No. 1 doubles team Kate Whitaker and Kimberly McIntyre captured a straight-sets victory, downing Nichole Newman and Riley Dining 6-2, 6-1.

"They are gaining momentum," Dryden said. "They had a very dominating performance."

Playing together for the first time, Whitefish's Michelle Maddock and McCara Cullen took the day's most entertaining match, sinking Libby's Margeaux Zwang and Anna Valentine 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

According to Dryden, Menegazzi should still be a top seed at next week's divisional tournament in Kalispell.

"Brielle is a very competitive girl and she's going to have to bounce back Saturday because she's got another tough match with (Bigfork's) Breanna Hughes."

Whitefish visits Bigfork today at 1 p.m. Libby entertains Polson this afternoon at 3.
