Polson opens LaVerne Combo 1-1

BUTTE - Polson settled for a 1-1 record Friday during first-day action at the LaVerne Combo Invitational softball tournament.
The Pirates bested Glendive, 4-1, but fell to Hamilton, 5-4.
Hamilton rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
"And with two outs," said Polson coach Larry Smith of Hamilton's rally.
"We couldn't get the third out.
"It was a typical Polson-Hamilton game, very intense, very close."
That game did not go seven innings because of the tournament time rule.
Polson trailed 2-1, but scored three times in the top of the sixth to go in front, 4-2. Maggie Gordon's single brought the final two runners home for Polson.
Polson outhit Hamilton, 11-6.
Leading hitters for Polson were: Kendra Woldstad, 3-3 (two doubles) and an RBI; Sarah Newton, 2-for-3 (double) and an RBI; and Amanda James, 2-for-3.
Dylen Zetterberg pitched both games, moving to 9-2 on the season.
She scattered seven hits to open the tournament with a victory over Glendive.
Jaelin Vandeberg went 2-for-3 for the Pirates, which included her seventh home run of the season and a double. She had two RBIs.
Also for Polson were: Kyla McDonald, 2-3 and a stolen base; and Amanda James, 2-for-3.
"Dylen just ran out of gas," said Smith of the Hamilton game. "The ball just wasn't breaking. She's doing well. She's coming back stronger."
