Rabbit, not his hand, was target

Flathead County sheriff's deputies went to the Kila area early Wednesday where a man accidentally shot himself in the hand with a .22-caliber pistol. He told deputies he was de-cocking the gun as he sat in his parked vehicle, and mistakenly put his hand over the barrel. He was planning to shoot a rabbit, he said.

A 59-year-old woman died Wednesday evening after being treated in Kalispell Regional Medical Center for injuries from a fall off her bicycle Tuesday, the sheriff reported. She had been riding to her mailbox in the Lake Blaine area when she fell and suffered a brain hemorrhage.

Somebody reportedly tore the ignition out of a neighbor's four-wheeler on Conrad Drive.

Tools, saws, planers and other items were reported stolen from a home construction site at Granary Ridge Drive. Plenty of footprints belied the intruders. It was inside city limits, so the case was handed over to Kalispell police.

Detectives are investigating a possible sexual assault reported Wednesday afternoon.

A 3-year-old girl wandered into a house on Shadow Lane near Kalispell. But her mother came to collect her within six minutes.

Nobody apparently was taken to the hospital, even though a motorcycle went into a steep ditch on Whitefish Stage Road north of Birch Grove Road.

It was a hot day and a German shepherd was left in a car with the windows rolled up at Super 1 Foods in Evergreen, so a concerned resident reported it.

It was a hit and run, presumably by a vehicle, after a fence got hit on Stillwater Road.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of partner or family member assault after deputies served a warrant on him at an area grocery store late Wednesday.

Further action on an assault reported at Montana Village was turned over to the County Attorney's Office.

The school resource officer's response was unsatisfactory, a Bigfork High School student said after complaining about threats received, so he asked for another officer.

A daughter's warning that she would have some friends "take care of" her mother resulted in hair-pulling, pushing and other unfriendly actions at the family's home. The 61-year-old Martin City mother was arrested on suspicion of partner or family member assault.
