Whitefish boys on top at Class A state tennis

MILES CITY - Whitefish High School's boys lead the pack after day one at the Class A state tennis tournament in Miles City.
Singles players Matt Harris and Ryan Rottenbiller advanced to the semifinals as the Bulldogs collected 13 points Thursday to lead Billings Central by one point.
Harris, Rottenbiller and Whitefish's Ian Hosek all cruised to straight-set victories in the first round. Harris beat Lewistown's Justin Hartford 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals while Rottenbiller rallied past Glendive's Blake Anderson 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Kyle Jacobson and Brendan Viscomi gave Whitefish a first-round doubles victory, handling Livingston's Peter DeBoer and Rex Allen 6-2, 6-4.
Columbia Falls' and Polson' boys earned one point apiece.
Libby freshman Jackie Mee has the Lady Loggers tied for fifth place with four points, along with Polson, Havre and Glendive.
Her team's lone representative, Mee opened with a straight-set victory over Livingston's Amanda Hoover and reached the semifinals by beating Corvallis' Megin Madruga 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Polson's Cali Hislop and Malika Erickson beat Hamilton's Ashli Mildenberger and Stephanie Huppert 6-1, 6-1 in the first round.
Whitefish's girls earned two points while the Bigfork Valkyries earned one.
The tournament continues today and concludes Saturday.
